It is essential that you go for a pedicure and manicure regularly. However sometimes it is not possible to follow this routine easily. May be you are lacking in funds or are short in time, and cannot visit the salon easily. DIY pedicure gives you an easy way out of this situation.
It is easy to do a DIY pedicure at home. You just need the right ingredients and tools to do it. Once you have all the things required just invest a couple of hours from your busy schedule and you have amazing nails, hands and feet without going to the salon.
DIY Pedicure
Taking care of feet is very important because your expensive Louboutins or Jimmy Choos would be a waste without beautiful feet. And to get the beautiful feet here is the simple DIY pedicure that will leave a long lasting effect.
Things you will need
- A medium sized tub
- Salt
- Rose water
- Shampoo
- Scrub
- Pumice stone
- Nail color of your choice
- Moisturizer
- Clean towels
- Care cotton bud
- Toe separators
Most of these ingredients are available at home or can be easily bought from any grocery store near you.
Process
First things first, remove any nail polish from your feet thoroughly with an acetone free nail polish remover. If your nail polish is such that it requires a remover that has acetone then use it although such nail colors should be avoided. Nail polish removers with acetone are very strong and can weaken the nails in the long run.
After the toe nails are completely free from any polish,
you are ready to proceed with your pedicure.
-
Soak in warm water
Fill a tub with lukewarm water. Add a pinch of salt to it, along with rose water and a soap of your choice. You can add shampoo or body wash for a thorough cleanup. Keep the feet soaked for about twenty minutes. It will make to skin soft and loosen the calluses and cuticles. It also cleanses any dirt or other much stuck in the toenails. It will also prepare the skin for exfoliation.
You can flip through you mobile or read a magazine while enjoying the relaxing luxurious feeling as your feet are gently caressed by warm salted water.
-
Scrub
Use a pumice stone and rub your feet to get rid of any difficult patches of hard skin. Heels and the knuckles are usually the areas of trouble. Thoroughly clean with the pumice stone so that the dead skin is removed. Try to get a foot scrubber with two surfaces. One for coarse scrub and one for lighter scrub. Use the coarse scrub on heels and lighter one on the sides of feet.
-
Exfoliate
Now is the time to pamper your feet like that of a queen. Use a scrub that has medium sized balls. For feet, sugar balls are recommended. Take a generous blob of scrub on the tips of your three fingers and gently massage all over the foot in circular movements. Cover all the parts of the feet from the top and the bottom, between the toes and below them. Start from the heels and then make your way up to the calves. If you have cracked heels, give them extra time and a vigorous massage. Once the exfoliating is done wash the feet with cold water. Earlier you have soaked them in warm water that had opened up the pores and the dead skin was removed. Now you close the pores by washing the feel with cold water. Of course there is no need to use icy cold water, normal cold water from the tap will do.
After that dry the feet by putting them on a towel and rubbing gently with another towel. You will feel the soft and velvety skin of your feet and beautiful shinning nails.

Now take out your favorite nail color, put toe separators on your toes and very carefully apple the base coat. Keep the nail polish remover and a care cotton bud handy. If you make any faulty strokes, quickly remove them with the care cotton bud dipped in nail polish remover. After the base coat has dried completely apply two more coats for a lasting shine and finesse. Remember to apply each coat when the first one has dried. If you want to do a French manicure, it is best you call over a friend and do for each other’s nails.
-
Moisturize
Now is the last step of DIY pedicure and that is to moisturize. With all the scrubbing and exfoliating, it is very important that you properly moisturize the feet. Use a good moisturizing cream or even better you can use homemade moisturizer. Mix two tablespoons of honey and 2 tablespoons of cream. Mix them both together and apply generously on the feet. Then wash off with normal water and no soap. This will leave your feet beautiful and soft.
The pedicure is done but how can you make the effects long lasting because of course the process took your time and energy so it is better to make it stay as long as possible. Follow these guidelines as much as you can to have longer affect.
- Avoid wearing open flats when you go out. Flat sandals or slippers can make you feet come in contact with dirt and pollutants when you go outside.
- Avoid walking barefoot at all costs even on pristine floor.
- Keep the feet away from too much water exposure.
